At Maple Grove Preschool and Childcare, you will find a classroom that is warm and inviting for little learners to explore, create and discover new things! We want school to be a safe place where students feel loved, valued and confident. The classroom is a child’s third teacher. The materials evolve and change as our studies/themes change. We are very intentional with the materials we set up in our classroom. We feel it is our job to nurture our students’ excitement for learning by creating developmentally appropriate, engaging and challenging lessons and activities so they become lifelong learners.

*Our daughter attended Maple Grove Preschool for nearly 2 years* Discovering Barb was a true stroke of luck (thank you, random google search), as we had decided that the larger daycare center my daughter had previously attended for a brief period was not a good fit. It was clear, from our very first meeting with Barb and her husband Dave, that we had found a fantastic and dedicated teacher for our 3 year old. She consistently goes above and beyond, to stimulate each child’s creative side and natural gifts. It was so much fun hearing my daughter describe her school days, and seeing her form close friendships. Her confidence and social skills took off quickly. But most importantly, Mrs. Barb gave her the gift of wanting to learn- something only the best teachers can accomplish. On a practical note, her home is in a great neighborhood, always quiet and low on traffic, and close to trails and nature. Her husband Dave is also great with kids and helps with preparing healthy meals (whic... - Patrick H
Miss Barb is such a wonderful teacher and my friend Josephine (I am her nanny) loves playing at school with her friends! I have been working with Josephine since she was just a few months old, and during our time together her family has tried a few different school settings to help expand her social skills. I can say without a doubt that she has flourished the most in Miss Barb's care, and it has been so wonderful to watch her grow and see the things she is learning at school. Barb has such a lovely, gentle style of teaching, and it is always a pleasure to chat with her and hear about how the students have helped direct some of the learning they did that day. Josephine says, "I like that she makes up ideas and prints out projects that we can make. I play outside and I have fun at school!" :) - Caitlin W
Maple Grove Preschool and Miss Barbara have been absolutely wonderful and I really can't express that enough. Finding her was the best thing for our family. My son has been with her for almost 3 years now and is off to Kindergarten this fall, and her program has really made him ready and he's so excited about it. Her activities she does with the kids is so wide ranged yet it keeps them so engaged. From letters, words, animals, bugs, numbers, songs, and weather, she really does it all! She is very patient and kind, and loves each child as if they were her own, so you know they are in wonderful hands. I can't wait to send my daughter to her when she is old enough! Highly recommended by our family :)- Brittany H

Why Maple Grove Preschool and Childcare Is the Best Choice for Your Child?
Choosing a preschool is one of the most meaningful decisions you will make for your child’s early years. You are not just choosing a place for them to spend their day—you are choosing the environment where they will begin to build confidence, develop friendships, and form their first impressions of learning. At Maple Grove Preschool and Childcare, every detail is thoughtfully designed to give your child the strongest possible start.
What truly sets Maple Grove Preschool and Childcare apart is its unique balance between the warmth of home and the excellence of a high-quality preschool program. Located in a safe, quiet neighborhood, the classroom is intentionally designed within the lower level of a home. This creates a calm, cozy environment where children feel secure, comfortable, and ready to explore. Unlike large, overcrowded centers, your child is not just another face in a busy classroom—they are known, valued, and cared for every single day.
One of the most powerful advantages of Maple Grove Preschool is its low child-to-teacher ratio. With small group sizes, each child receives individualized attention that simply is not possible in larger programs. Teachers have the time and space to truly understand each child’s personality, interests, and developmental needs. This allows learning to be personalized, meaningful, and engaging. Children are not rushed through activities—they are supported at their own pace, building confidence and independence along the way.
Relationships are at the heart of everything. In many childcare settings, high staff turnover can disrupt a child’s sense of security. At Maple Grove Preschool and Childcare, children benefit from consistency and strong, lasting relationships with their teacher. This sense of stability helps children feel safe, which is the foundation for all learning. When children feel secure, they are more willing to take risks, try new things, and grow.
The learning environment itself is intentionally designed to inspire curiosity and creativity. The classroom includes dedicated areas for blocks, art, science, math, literacy, and dramatic play. Materials are thoughtfully selected and rotated based on themes and children’s interests, keeping the environment fresh and engaging. Rather than relying on worksheets or screens, children learn through hands-on exploration, play-based experiences, and meaningful interactions.
Maple Grove Preschool and Childcare also focuses on the whole child. While kindergarten readiness is important, true readiness goes far beyond knowing letters and numbers. Children here develop strong social-emotional skills, learning how to express themselves, solve problems, and build friendships. They gain independence through daily routines and develop language skills through rich conversations, storytelling, and guided play. These are the skills that set children up not just for kindergarten, but for lifelong success.
Another unique aspect of the program is its connection to nature. With a backyard that borders a nature preserve, children have the opportunity to explore, observe, and engage with the natural world. Outdoor experiences are not an afterthought—they are an essential part of the day. This connection to nature supports physical development, curiosity, and a sense of wonder that cannot be replicated indoors.
Families also value the sense of community that Maple Grove Preschool creates. This is not a large, impersonal center—it is a place where relationships extend beyond the classroom. Parents are known, communication is meaningful, and there is a shared commitment to each child’s growth and well-being. You are not just enrolling your child in a program—you are joining a supportive, connected community.
Every detail, from the daily schedule to the carefully planned activities, reflects a deep understanding of how young children learn best. There is a thoughtful balance of structure and flexibility, allowing children to feel secure in routines while still having the freedom to explore and create. Movement, play, and hands-on learning are woven throughout the day, ensuring that learning feels joyful and natural.
Ultimately, what makes Maple Grove Preschool and Childcare the best choice is simple: children thrive here. They feel safe, they feel valued, and they develop a genuine love of learning. Parents can feel confident knowing their child is in an environment that prioritizes quality, connection, and intentional teaching.
If you are looking for more than just childcare—if you are looking for a place where your child will be truly known, supported, and inspired—Maple Grove Preschool and Childcare offers an experience that is both exceptional and deeply personal.

In the first five years of life, a child’s brain grows to 85% of its full capacity. Children begin to form a sense of what is possible and attainable in their young lives, exploring the world around them and finding their place within it. Maple Grove Childcare and Preschool knows the first years of life are critical to a child’s success, but because this complex and rapid development in young children is accompanied by a very diverse set of early childhood education and care programs, having a shared set of expectations and key milestones is the foundation of a successful early childhood education system. In Minnesota, this set of shared expectations is called the Early Childhood Indicators of Progress: Minnesota’s Early Learning Standards (ECIPs).
Recently revised, the state has just released its 2017 ECIPs now available on the MDE website. The revised standards now include ages birth to kindergarten entrance and are aligned with the Minnesota Kindergarten Academic Standards.
Maple Grove Preschool and Childcare incorporates the areas of learning covered by the ECIPs in its program:
Physical and movement development
Social and emotional development
Language, literacy and communications
Mathematics
Scientific thinking
Social systems
Approaches to learning
The arts
We utilize Minnesotas Early Learning Standards as a basis for creating intentional learning experiences in my curriculum, child assessment, and program evaluation.
