Our Approach

Our approach

Maple Grove Preschool and Childcare's curriculum reflects current best practices in cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.

Research shows that children learn best through experiences that match their developmental stage. Children also learn best in environments where they have warm, nurturing relationships.

In our Classroom, we aim to spark children’s sense of wonder, curiosity, and delight in learning. We aim to help each child build their knowledge and a framework for academic concepts.

How we teach

Our classroom is a rich environment where children can explore, experiment, and use what they learn. We emphasize the math, literacy, science, and social studies lessons embedded in daily play activities at school.

For example, children learn about number and math operations best when they have interesting objects to sort, match, order, and count (in other words, play with!).

We then step in and talk with a child about what they’re doing and thinking. This helps the child remember and apply what they know in new situations.

We help children prepare to attend school and study every academic content area.

creative art and music

Our Creative Arts Curriculum includes all types of artistic expression for your child to experience painting, drawing, making to music, dancing, pretend play, creating with new materials, building, etc. In addition, children are exposed to a variety of experiences to further their appreciation of the arts and set life-long patterns for enjoying the arts.

social skills and development

We foster your child's self- independence, self-awareness, and interest in the feelings of others. We know that children are learning new ways to engage successfully and positively with their friends. We recognize that in the early years, children are developing social and emotional skills that will guide their behavior, affect their overall mental health, and impact their ability to succeed academically as they move on to later schooling. Our program provides guidance to your child to learn appropriate expectations for positive social interactions.

literacy

Developing your child's Language, Literacy, and Communications skills are an integral part of our curriculum. This includes daily exposure to Listening and Understanding both the written and oral word, Communicating and Speaking; Emergent Reading and Writing activities.

math and science

Throughout each day, children in our program encounter mathematical concepts and engage in mathematical investigation and problem-solving frequently. Preschoolers sing counting songs, learn the number names, and begin to connect the number with the amount as they build with blocks or play with manipulatives. Their understanding of volume and measurement grows as they play with water in a tub or pour milk into a cup at the snack table. Number Knowledge, Measurement, Patterns, Geometry and Spatial Thinking are a part of our Curriculum.
